Junkyard Jane

Junkyard Jane

“Great songs, great singing, great grooves and a sense of humor – it don’t get much better than this.” -Marc Bristol, Blue Suede News

The five-headed love child named Junkyard Jane rose by night in the tide flats of Tacoma, Washington, from a deadly brew of blues, swamp gas, rockabilly, old engine parts, country, motor oil, folk, funk and used kitty litter. Like all true originals, they display a Creole blend of influences that they affectionately call “Swampabilly Blues”.

With eight critically acclaimed CD’s under their belt and well over 5000 live performances since their 1997 debut, in 2016 Junkyard Jane was fittingly inducted into the Washington Blues Society’s prestigious “Hall of Fame”.

A BEAM Grant (Benefiting Emerging Artists in Music) recipient, Junkyard Jane was one of only eight groups from a pool of thousands to make the final round at the 2001 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee. The group’s briefcase full of kudos over the years includes the Washington BB Award for “Best Northwest Band” as well as “Best Northwest Recording”.

Four-time “Best Songwriter” nominee and Tacoma Music Award recipient for “Female Performer of the Year,” Leanne Trevalyan entices the listener with her smooth, sultry vocals and finger-style acoustic guitar picking. Leanne’s washboard scratchin’ and occasional kazoo solos add a touch of whimsy to JJ’s live performance.

Billy Stoops, a BB Award winner for “Entertainer of the Year” as well as “Best Male Vocalist,” delights and amuses audiences with his rich, soulful voice and on-stage presence. Billy’s distinctive guitar style, both electric and acoustic, along with his groove-oriented songwriting garnered him a Tacoma Music Award for “Male Performer of the Year.”

The versatile, BB Award winning Jim King provides both saxophone and harmonica as a focal point and ear candy to the diverse stage show that Junkyard Jane brings.

And finally, founding member Barbra Blue, a BB Award winner herself for “Best Bass,” provides melodic lines on both electric and acoustic basses, while renowned drummer Chris Leighton, one the region’s premier percussionists, keeps pounding down the groove so your butts can move!
